monday evening

well, the anniversary celebration went nicely. josh and gen got to eat dinner and see a movie over at the house we are using. it was so nice to be out of the hospital. i used the opportunity to see more of the town of lincoln. i saw the capitol building, the downtown area and did some general sightseeing while i tried to find my way back home. a good time was had by all. today gen worked with e stim on her arms in ot. she got to brush her teeth and put on lip gloss. in speech she got out some of the loudest and longest vocalizations her therapist has heard yet. she was very impressed. in pt we worked on sitting balance and leg strength, and then gen stood again. to accomplish this we have a gait belt on her and help her to her feet, making sure her heels stay down and her knees straighten. she holds herself upright, but she has a bit of support on at least one side via the belt and the therapist. today we had her take a step forward (by shifting her weight to one foot for her and moving her other foot for her.) eventually we helped her do a sort of two-step shift to get from the mat to the chair without the slide board. her physical therapist is still talking about getting her on the treadmill this week soon. this treadmill is set up so you can roll a wheelchair up a ramp to it, hook cables to the gait belt around the patient, lift the patient and keep them supported while their feet are on the treadmill. we are really hoping gen will get to do that this week. thank you all for your prayers and words of encouragement. gen loves to hear the comments on the blog. she said for me to tell jenny, "i choose not to run."

dear Genevieve.

Tonight we did great things. Now all birds have colourful treat dishes, filled to the brim with honey orange blossom treat mix. George and Gracie also got a coordinating hot pink water dispenser. Next stop is a round of cuttle bone, and we are thinking that new cages similar to wintrop and mathilde beep's. The round blue one has seen better days and is no longer safe to hang. We were also contemplating a nest and orchard grass ball with bell for Clark and Carol? Anyway just food for thought really. Oh and release date is something like oct 14??? for marie antonette. I for one cannot wait.
