thursday evening

we started today with a standing frame session. it went very well. we mainly worked on breathing. gen and i got to blow bubbles. gen ate real food today. mashed potatoes and gravy, pureed pork, pureed veggies, thickened cranberry juice. it wasn't the tastiest food in the world (i tried it), but i think gen was happy to eat anything. she'll get to eat lunch for a few days, and sometime next week she'll graduate to three meals a day. she worked more with her biceps and triceps today. tomorrow, gen may get to try her sip and puff wheelchair.

p.s. jenny, gen says: "knock, knock... housekeeping! you want mint for pillow?"

Hey Gen, that is so great that they are letting you eat real food now. When my dad was in the hospital after his stroke they wouldn't feed him for quite some time him because they were afraid he would choke. They would only let him suck water out of a sponge on a stick. Those nurses didn't know how much my dad likes to eat and they left him unattended with one in his mouth. Well, he ate that sponge and after that they were really stingy with them! Just thought you might want to hear a funny story. Congrats on the solid diet.

Gen,
Great news about the solid food even though it is hospital food! With it's bland taste, just image some of that great new orleans food. Maybe imagery can add flavor! So happy to read of your progress, I am so proud of you. Keep up the good work. love Tracey

okay, mint for pillow...what the... it's over my head! I just love inside jokes. I try to figure what you mean. What if the hokey pokey was really what it's all about!!! Enjoy the food. Eat slowly, and enjoy! Because you can.
