monday evening

we still don't have the internet thing worked out yet. here's a quick update...
saturday, gen started using the cap for her trach tube. she tolerated about 12 hours on saturday, sunday, and monday. the cap makes her breathe through her mouth and nose only. her tongue movement is improving. she can now stick her tongue out about even with her lips. she's been sitting in a wheelchair for the better part of every day. she has been wearing her own clothes every day. susan and i have been trained to do arm and hand excercises and to transfer her from bed to wheelchair and back. the therapists have been very nice, and they are starting to warm up to us. we had a visit from an "angel dog" this evening. gen thought the dog looked like our old dog, audrey. i'm sure i'm leaving important things out, but i'll write more tomorrow and try not to leave anything out.

Dear Susan, Josh, and Gen,

What a blessing to get tonight's report! I am so proud of all of you - Gen for working so hard to master new things each day - and Susan and Josh for encouraging and taking care of Gen. I imagine you are all very tired by the time evening comes. Thank you for making the extra effort to keep us updated! When I read that you are staying on Normal Street, my nerd geometry teacher side came to the surface. Normal means perpendicular, so I wonder just what other street Normal is perpendicular to. Perhaps that thought hadn't crossed your mind! We continue to pray for strength and courage for all of you.

Love,
Melfin

Glad to have the updates back. We are addicted to the "news". We talked about you guys all weekend. Missed you a lot. It was much calmer without the "kids" but not nearly as much fun. Next year OKC-- so you can be there too. Love, Dick and Eillen

Josh,
Thanks for the update, I've been checking regularly. What a joy to wear your own clothing again, those hospital gowns can get a draft in them. Keep up the hard work Gen, Josh and Susan. You are amazing in your determination. Alex says keep improving so she can teach you some hip hop moves! love, Tracey & Alex

Hey GEN!!!
You are making great progress! Keep up the good work. You are such a strong person...I have so many good memories of you and I playing the flute together. Those lips will be moving and talking full blast before you know it.

So happy to figure out how to get your info since you moved. I'm not a computer whiz, barely get it turned on. Saw Susan when she was here and got a report. On my second try today I got everything to work. Your progress really sounds fantastic. I know you're really glad to get that tube out. I had one of those once. Stuff really tastes good. Keep up the good work and you'll continue to progress, and don't let the occasional bad day get you down. We keep thinking of you and praying for your recovery. Bonham and Lida Oney.
