monday night

all these weeks i have been picturing a time far down the road when the therapists put gen between parallel bars and had her balance. i was so surprised and pleased when claud (the french-canadian woman who is gen's physical therapist) asked if she wanted to try the parallel bars today. gen said yes. she had already been in the standing frame, and we wheeled her right over to the other apparatus. we held her arms and feet in place, and claud lifted her with the help of the occupational therapist. gen had to straighten her torso and hold her head up. we were supporting her and she was helping with her hands and arms on the bars. it was extremely hard work, but she was happy to try it. she gets to try another new exercise tomorrow, and we'll report on that when we see it. speech therapy came as soon as she was back in the room from pt. she worked on tongue movement and the speech valve. gen is practicing moving her tongue up, right, left, and out. all of these movements are necessary for speech and for eating food. she said the things she is doing are getting easier. we thank you for your prayers and continued encouragement.

Vievster!

Glad to hear that you're on the parallel bars, personally, I could never master them myself. Uncle Howard, though, he could tell you about his days in gymnastics!!

We love you.

You don't know me but I'm a friend of your Grandmother. I am one who knows exactly what you are going through and how much wiggling your toe means. I know the excitement you felt when you stood at the parallel bars. You see, I was in a near fatal car accident when I was 23 yrs. old. I had 60 broken bones throughout my body, 40 of them from my waist down. I broke my jaw both ways and had it wired shut for 10 weeks and had to learn how to talk all over again. I just wanted you to know how wonderful God is, something I know you already know. I'm 60 years old and have been walking since 10months after the accident. Something the drs. thought never would be possible. With God anything is possible. Its a long slow fight but it is worth it. I am praying for you daily and thanking and praising God for the many miracles He is doing in your body. The testimony you are giving right now is immeasurable. If you ever want to talk to someone who has been there and knows what you're going through mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually feel free to write me or call me at 417-392-0000. As a fellow sister in Christ, I send you my love and my blessings. Susan House
