dr. terry came by today. he took gen off the iv. he said she is making a lot more progress than he thought she would at this point and that her "continual progress" is a good sign. speech therapy went well today. we didn't get any sounds, but gen's mouth muscles are getting stronger. she is breathing better with the speaking valve than she was yesterday. physical therapy also went well today. they sat gen up on the bed today. her neck muscles are getting stronger. she held her head up higher and longer than she has before. also today for the first time, gen said she was thirsty. we used swabs dipped in water to let her have a drink. she can swallow just fine, but her jaw and lip movement is limited. it was nice to have her spell something so simple and normal..."I'm thirsty." we take so much for granted, don't we?

Gen's progress is nearly as incredible as is the idea of her having a stroke to begin with!! I read these reports daily with amazement; and report to folks who ask about her: former classmates of Gen's, Josh's, (and of Susan's!) who work where I do and former teachers and so on...thanks so much for continuing with the blog. Many folks who don't necessarily post still hold Gen in their thoughts!
Great to hear somemore positive words! Gen's always been a strong willed, incredible person. Keep strong Josh and Susan, I'm thinking and praying for you. Tracey
Good to see Gen's progress.
Wish I could have been in MO more times to visit. I think of y'all though. Thanks for the blog.
Praying for Gen's recovery.

Hey, guys! It's me, Franny (Susan knows me).
Carla just told me tonight about Genevieve.
It sounds like she's making very good progress. I know that she's a fighter, just like her mom.
I am going to be sure and check on her progress everyday. We (Derrick and I) will be sure to keep you guys in our prayers.
